Raipur, Chhattisgarh: Padma Shri awardee Dr. Budhendra Kumar (B.K.) Jain, the newly appointed Chairman of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur, completed a three-day visit to the institute, reviewing its key departments and sharing his vision to shape it into a premier health and academic center of Central India.
On his arrival, Dr. Jain was received by AIIMS Raipur’s Executive Director and CEO, Lt. Gen. Ashok Jindal (Retd.). A renowned ophthalmologist and social reformer, Dr. Jain also serves as Director of Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya and Janakikund Hospital in Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh. With more than five decades of experience in rural eye care and community health, he has overseen over 200,000 eye surgeries annually, delivering healthcare to underserved populations through innovative outreach programs.
Guided by a philosophy of service, discipline, and compassion, Dr. Jain has expanded his efforts beyond ophthalmology into women’s empowerment, agriculture, education, and rural development. His lifelong contributions have been recognized with multiple national and international honors, including the AIOS Lifetime Achievement Award, Spirit of Humanity Award, and Glory of India Award. In May 2025, he was conferred the Padma Shri by the President of India, and in June 2025, he received the Hippocrates Legacy Award for his commitment to preventing avoidable blindness.
During his Raipur visit, Dr. Jain inspected the Trauma & Emergency, Critical Care, Orthopedics, and General Surgery departments. He was briefed on the innovative “Bhishma Cubes” for emergency care, visited the Simulation Lab, and released the Patient Safety Handbook prepared by the institute’s Patient Safety Committee. He also inaugurated the Renal Transplant facility, new Pediatric Surgery and Ophthalmology wards, Ophthalmology and Nephrology OPDs, and the Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) unit at the Dentistry Department. Later, he attended the Institutional and General Body Meeting and held extensive discussions with faculty members on AIIMS Raipur’s future roadmap.
Concluding his visit, Dr. Jain expressed confidence in the institute’s rising stature, stating that AIIMS Raipur would soon emerge as the leading healthcare and academic hub of Central India. He reiterated the institute’s commitment to delivering patient-centered, world-class medical services with compassion and urged faculty and staff to pursue excellence collectively with steadfast dedication.
